Questions people ask
What are good first date ideas that don't involve drinking?
Anything with a built-in activity and a natural end: a gallery, a market, a walk with a destination, a bookshop, a matinee, a swim, coffee somewhere with a queue you can comment on. The activity does the work when conversation stalls, and the natural end means neither of you has to invent an exit.
How long should a first date be?
Short enough that it can be extended. An hour is plenty. A first date's job is to answer one question — do I want a second one — and building in a reason you have to leave gives both people permission to end it without a verdict.
Are sober first dates a good idea?
They're a good idea for anyone who wants to know what the person is actually like. Alcohol smooths the first thirty minutes and blurs everything you were trying to find out. If you're sober-curious or in recovery, choosing the venue yourself removes the negotiation entirely.
