LGBTQ+ life in Miami: the practical bits

The Greater Miami tourism bureau describes South Beach as the heart of the area's LGBTQ+ scene, with an LGBTQ+ beach between 11th and 12th Streets. Pridelines, on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, runs programmes from youth to seniors alongside therapy and HIV testing, and Care Resource operates community health centres in Midtown Miami, Miami Beach and Little Havana. In Little Havana, the bureau notes the annual Gay8 Festival. Miami Beach Pride brings a free festival to Lummus Park and a nine-block parade along Ocean Drive each April rather than June.

As of 2026, Florida has no statewide law covering sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing or public accommodations. Miami-Dade County's Human Rights Ordinance covers both. Federal law (Bostock, 2020) separately bars sexual-orientation and gender-identity discrimination by employers with 15 or more employees. Florida law also restricts transgender people's use of publicly owned bathrooms and facilities and bans gender-affirming medical care for minors; the Movement Advancement Project rates the state negative for gender-identity policy (checked October 2026).
