Escape Rooms and Immersive Experiences in London for a Date: Prices for Two, Checked

Sources checked 14 October 2026 · 8 min read

For a date in London in October 2026, the bookable options are escape rooms such as ClueQuest in King's Cross and the London Dungeon's escape room, and immersive galleries such as Frameless at Marble Arch and Lightroom at King's Cross. Punchdrunk and Secret Cinema had nothing on sale in London on the check date. This guide gives prices for two, durations, access and warnings as each venue states them.

The short version

  • ClueQuest, 169-171 Caledonian Road, runs 60-minute games. Its FAQ lists £31.99 per person off-peak and £36.99 peak, with teams of two paying £5 more each on weekdays or £10 more each at weekends.
  • The London Dungeon's escape room costs £120 per room, which is £60 each for two. It is 60 minutes to escape, allow 90 minutes, book at least 48 hours ahead, and bookings are non-refundable.
  • Frameless, 6 Marble Arch, sells adult tickets online from £29.50 and suggests allowing about two hours. It is open until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Lightroom, 12 Lewis Cubitt Square, King's Cross, has adult tickets from £25 plus a £2 fee per order. Its Bowie show runs about an hour on a loop until 10 January 2027.
  • Punchdrunk's only London listing, Persephone in Woolwich, was a film screening on 25 to 27 September. Secret Cinema's Grease site says the show has closed.
  • Accessibility varies sharply: Frameless says the whole building is wheelchair accessible, the Dungeon escape room says it is not, and ClueQuest has some rooms reachable by a wheelchair lift.

Why a puzzle or an immersive room works for a date

An escape room gives two people a shared job for an hour. You talk because you have to, you find out quickly how the other person handles a bit of pressure, and there is a clear finish line. An immersive gallery is gentler: you walk, you look, and you can talk or not. Both suit a first or second date better than sitting opposite each other in a loud bar.

The trade-off is cost and rigidity. Escape rooms are priced per room or per person with a premium for pairs, and most are non-refundable once booked. Galleries are cheaper per head and more forgiving about timing. Everything below comes from the venues' own pages read on 14 October 2026; where a venue does not state something, this guide says so rather than guessing.

ClueQuest, King's Cross

ClueQuest's rooms are at 169-171 Caledonian Road, N1, which the operator describes as close to King's Cross. Its games are 60-minute missions. Most of them, including PLAN52, Operation BlackSheep, Revenge of the Sheep and cQ:ORIGENES, take two players or more. IAMAI needs at least four, so it is out for a couple.

On price, the FAQ lists £31.99 per person off-peak and £36.99 per person peak for teams of three or more. Teams of two pay £5 more per person on weekdays or £10 more per person at weekends. Worked through, that is roughly £74 for two at the off-peak weekday rate and roughly £94 for two at the peak weekend rate, but confirm the figure at checkout because seasonal games can cost more. The FAQ also says the rooms were designed for three to six and that pairs can play with more help from the hosts.

Arrive 10 minutes early. The FAQ warns that turning up more than 15 minutes late may mean a shorter game or being turned away. Confirmed bookings are not refunded on cancellation, though the team says it will try to help you reschedule.

Difficulty is rated on the booking page: PLAN52 and Operation BlackSheep are 3 out of 5, Revenge of the Sheep is 4, and cQ:ORIGENES is 5. For a first go, a 3 is the sensible choice.

  • ClueQuestescape room

    169-171 Caledonian Road, N1 0SL

60-minute games for 2 to 7 players (IAMAI needs 4+); pairs pay a surcharge; some rooms reachable by wheelchair lift.

The London Dungeon escape room

The London Dungeon runs a private escape room themed on Guy Fawkes' cell. It costs £120 per room whatever the group size, so a pair pays £60 each. You have 60 minutes to escape and the Dungeon says to allow 90 minutes overall. Entry to the main Dungeon tour is not included.

The terms are strict. Tickets must be booked at least 48 hours ahead and cannot be bought on the door. Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable, and arriving late forfeits the slot. Check in at the Dungeon's front-of-house ticket office 15 minutes before your game.

The page states several warnings worth reading before you book a date here. The room has flashing lights (not strobes), loud noises and enclosed spaces, and the story involves torture and hanging. It is not wheelchair accessible because players have to crawl through a small space, and the Dungeon says a good understanding of English is essential. It accepts ages 5 and over but recommends 12 and over.

£120 per room for 2 to 6 players; 60 minutes; book 48 hours ahead; not wheelchair accessible.

Immersive galleries: Frameless and Lightroom

Frameless, at 6 Marble Arch, W1, projects art floor to ceiling across four main galleries with an original score. Adult tickets bought online in advance start at £29.50, so from £59 for two, and the venue says booking ahead online saves 20% compared with paying at the door. It recommends allowing about two hours, and last entry is two hours before closing.

Its regular hours are 11am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, 10.30am to 10pm on Friday, 10am to 10pm on Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday, which makes Friday or Saturday the obvious evening slot. The tickets page lists changes for October: closed on 5 and 6 October, shorter hours on 19 and 22 October, and 10am to 7pm through half term from 25 October to 1 November.

Lightroom, at 12 Lewis Cubitt Square in King's Cross, is a single large room for projected shows. On the check date it listed David Bowie: You're Not Alone, running until 10 January 2027, and Larger Than Life, starring Wallace and Gromit and Shaun, until 4 January 2027. Matisse: Joy is listed from 27 January to 8 May 2027.

Adult tickets for both current shows start at £25, so from £50 for two plus a £2 transaction fee per order. The Bowie show lasts about an hour and the Wallace and Gromit show about 50 minutes; both loop, so you can arrive within your slot and stay for another round if there is space. For the Bowie show Lightroom lists Wednesday to Sunday opening, with late hours to 9.30pm (last entry 8.30pm) on Fridays and Saturdays, and closure on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Immersive theatre: Punchdrunk and Secret Cinema

Punchdrunk was founded in 2000 by Felix Barrett, according to Wikipedia, and is known for masked audiences free to roam a large set. Its London production The Burnt City, about the fall of Troy, ran at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich in 2022 and 2023.

On the check date, Punchdrunk's site listed one London event: Persephone, at One Cartridge Place, Woolwich, a film of The Burnt City screened on the original set. Its page gave dates of 25 to 27 September, a running time of 120 minutes including a 20-minute interval, and standard tickets at £45 (£75 for the premiere). Those dates have passed, and the page does not list a later run. Its other current shows are in New York and Shanghai.

Secret Cinema's own site lists its most recent London production as Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical in August 2025, and the Grease site now says the show has closed. Nothing was shown on sale. If either company is a draw, sign up to its mailing list and watch for announcements rather than relying on third-party resale listings.

Coming up: Phantom Peak

Phantom Peak describes itself as an open-world immersive experience, a real-life video game in which you explore a town and meet characters at your own pace. Its site says it returns to Westfield Stratford City on 4 December 2026. Its home page says tickets are already on sale but did not list prices, hours, duration or age guidance on the check date, so check the booking page before you commit.

Accessibility and content warnings at a glance

Frameless says the whole building, including toilets and the café bar, is wheelchair accessible, and that a free carer ticket can be added at checkout with proof such as a PIP letter or Blue Badge. It runs Chilled Sessions for disabled and neurodivergent visitors and anyone who prefers quieter spaces. It says there is no strobe lighting in the main galleries, but the experience contains moving images and changes in light that may affect some people, and music can peak above 85 decibels; ear defenders are available from staff.

ClueQuest says one copy each of Operation BlackSheep and cQ:ORIGENES, and two copies each of PLAN52 and Revenge of the Sheep, are reachable by a wheelchair lift, though not every puzzle may be reachable from a chair. Powered wheelchair users should contact the team first because of the lift's weight limit. IAMAI has four steps. The standard games are described as having no jump scares. Post Mortem is a horror game, strictly 18 and over, and not recommended for pregnant players; a spooky version of Operation BlackSheep runs around Halloween and is recommended for 14 and over.

Lightroom lists BSL and relaxed showings on set dates for each show, including relaxed sessions for Larger Than Life on 6, 8, 15 and 21 December and 2 January. Its show pages do not mention strobe or flashing light warnings, so ask if that matters to either of you. The London Dungeon escape room is not wheelchair accessible and contains flashing lights, loud noise and enclosed spaces.

Picking one for the person you're meeting

If you both like puzzles and want something lively, a 3-out-of-5 ClueQuest room is the most flexible bookable option here, with clear access information. If the other person is not keen on scares or tight spaces, skip the Dungeon and any horror room, and say which room you have booked in advance so they can check the warnings themselves.

For a calmer or cheaper first meeting, Lightroom at King's Cross gives you a fixed hour with an easy walk to food afterwards, and Frameless on a Friday or Saturday evening lets you set your own pace. Either way, splitting the booking or agreeing who pays before you go removes one awkward moment at the door.

Before you go

  • Prices, hours and listings here are as read on 14 October 2026. Check the venue's own booking page before you pay.
  • Most escape-room bookings are non-refundable: ClueQuest and the London Dungeon both say so. Only book a slot you are both sure of.
  • Arrive early: 10 minutes for ClueQuest, 15 for the Dungeon escape room, and no more than 15 minutes before your slot at Lightroom.
  • Share the content warnings with your date before booking, especially for horror rooms, enclosed spaces or loud sound.
  • If either of you needs step-free access, contact the venue first; arrangements differ by room and by date.
