Zona Rosa has long been synonymous with the city's gay and lesbian nightlife, and the city's own tourism site notes that much of it is given over to the Pride march preparations and the party that follows. The march, in its 48th edition in 2026, leaves the Ángel de la Independencia on Paseo de la Reforma and finishes at the Zócalo. - Mexico City legalised same-sex marriage at the end of 2009, a first for Latin America. By late 2022 the last of Mexico's 32 states had ended its ban, so same-sex couples can marry nationwide, although in a few states this has depended on court rulings rather than a change in the state's own law, and rules on adoption and legal gender recognition still vary by state.
