Porto's LGBTI+ calendar centres on the Marcha do Orgulho, held in late June or early July: 29 June in 2024, 28 June in 2025 and 27 June in 2026. It began in 2006 after the killing of Gisberta Salce, and COMOP, a committee of more than 20 civil-society groups, plans it each year. The 2026 march ran from Praça da República to Largo Amor de Perdição. Year-round, Centro Gis, run by Associação Plano i in neighbouring Matosinhos, supports LGBTI people facing domestic or gender-based violence, and rede ex aequo has a Porto youth group. Queer Porto, the international queer film festival, runs 3 to 7 November 2026.

The legal picture: As of 2026, same-sex civil marriage has been legal in Portugal since 2010 (Law 9/2010). Article 13 of the Constitution lists sexual orientation among the grounds on which no one may be privileged or denied rights. Portugal's 2018 gender self-determination law (Law 38/2018) remains in force, but in March 2026 Parliament advanced bills to repeal it; check ILGA Portugal for the current status.
