Rooftop Bars and Terraces in London for a Date: Booking, Heaters and Access
Sources checked 14 October 2026 · 10 min read
For a rooftop date in London this autumn, Madison at One New Change, Netil360 in Hackney, the Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch, Coppa Club by Tower Bridge and the bars inside Sky Garden all publish winter hours, and several mention heaters or covered areas. Booking rules differ a lot: some are walk-in only for small groups, some charge if you cancel late. Step-free access ranges from full lift access to none.
The short version
- Madison, 1 New Change, EC4M 9AF, opens 12pm to midnight Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 10pm on Sunday. Drinks groups under ten are walk-in only, a £20 entry fee may apply at peak times, guests must be 21 or over after 3pm and on Saturdays, and the venue says it has lift access to all guest areas.
- Netil360, 1 Westgate Street, E8 3RL, is over-18s, free to enter and open Thursday to Saturday. Its terrace has covered areas and heaters for winter, but it says it cannot provide lift access for wheelchair users.
- The Queen of Hoxton's rooftop at 1 Curtain Road, EC2A 3JX, opens Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm to 10pm, weather permitting. It keeps space back for walk-ins, and its £5 Thursday happy hour starts at 5pm.
- Coppa Club Tower Bridge, 3 Three Quays Walk, EC3R 6AH, says its riverside igloos let the terrace be used all year, and recommends booking a table or igloo ahead.
- Sky Garden's bars run until midnight, or 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, with last entry an hour earlier. Bar tables are 16+ with an adult, standing and walk-in access is 18+, and the outdoor terrace closes at 6pm.
- Frank's Cafe in Peckham is seasonal: its 2026 season ran 15 May to 12 September, it takes no table reservations and it is card only.
How to pick a rooftop for a date
A rooftop does some of the work of a first date for you. There is a view to talk about, the light changes while you sit there, and if the conversation goes quiet you can both look out at the skyline. The trade-off is that rooftops are the venues most at the mercy of weather, door policy and crowds, so the practical details matter more than they would for a pub on the corner.
Three questions sort most of the options. First, can you book, or is it walk-in only? A walk-in rooftop on a warm Friday can mean a queue on the pavement, which is a poor start. Second, what happens when it is cold or wet? Some terraces have heaters, covered sections or enclosed pods; others simply close or reduce hours. Third, can both of you get up there? Several of these venues are high in older buildings, and their access arrangements range from a lift to every floor to no wheelchair access at all.
Everything below comes from each venue's own website, read on 14 October 2026, unless marked otherwise. Hours, prices and door policies on rooftops change with the season, so check again the week you go. If you would rather have the view without buying a drink, our guide to free skyline views covers Sky Garden tickets, Horizon 22, the One New Change roof terrace and the city's hills in detail; this guide focuses on places where the drink is the point.
Madison at One New Change: booked dinner or walk-in drinks
Madison sits on top of One New Change, opposite St Paul's Cathedral, and describes itself as a rooftop venue with terraces overlooking the cathedral. Wikipedia records that the building, designed by Jean Nouvel, opened in October 2010 and that its roof terrace opened the following month with a restaurant and cafe.
Its hours are midday to midnight Monday to Saturday and midday to 10pm on Sunday. The booking rules are specific: online bookings are for dining groups of up to 12, while drinks parties of fewer than ten people are walk-in only, so a couple meeting for a drink cannot reserve a table. The FAQ says a £20 entry fee may apply at peak times. If you do book a table and do not cancel within 48 hours, the venue says a charge of £25 per guest applies.
The terrace has umbrellas and heaters for cooler evenings, but Madison states plainly that it is not fully weatherproof and asks you to check the forecast. It says weather-related cancellations carry no fee, but must be made by email. There is no dress code. Age is the rule most likely to catch people out: children are welcome until 3pm with a guardian, but after 3pm, and all day on Saturdays, every guest must be 21 or over. The FAQ says the venue is fully accessible with lift access to all guest areas, and invites you to contact the team ahead if you need help. It also lists festive hours, including closing on Christmas Day 2026.
The free public roof terrace of the same building is a separate space; for a no-spend look at the same view, see our skyline guide.

1 New Change, City of London, EC4M 9AF
Open 12pm–midnight Monday to Saturday, 12pm–10pm Sunday; drinks groups under ten are walk-in only; 21+ after 3pm and on Saturdays; lift access to all guest areas.
East London: Netil360 and the Queen of Hoxton
Netil360 is a rooftop on Netil House at 1 Westgate Street, by London Fields. It opens Thursday 6pm to 11pm, Friday from 6pm and Saturday from 3pm, and is closed Monday to Wednesday; its site does not list Sunday hours, and gives Friday and Saturday closing as both midnight and 12.30am in different places, so check. Entry is free, it is strictly over-18s, and its FAQ says walk-in groups are seated where possible, with most tables seating up to ten and sharing encouraged. Bookings are limited, and the indoor space is booked through a reservations system linked from the site.
For winter, Netil360 says its terrace has covered areas and heaters, and that its covered tent is back for the season, aimed at larger groups and parties. Its FAQ is direct about access: because of structural limits in the building, it cannot provide lift access for safe wheelchair entry to the roof. If either of you needs step-free access, this one is not the right choice.
The Queen of Hoxton is a bar at 1 Curtain Road in Shoreditch with a rooftop that it says is open all year, with a heated winter yurt in colder months. The rooftop opens Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm to 10pm, with the kitchen from 4.30pm serving Bajan sharing plates from BARBs. Opening is weather dependent and the venue asks you to call ahead. Its bookings page says tables are limited, last bookings are at 8pm, and space is held back for walk-ins.
On Thursdays it runs a happy hour from 5pm with selected cocktails and beers at £5, free entry and no dress code. One page says the offer runs until 2am while the rooftop's own hours end at 10pm, so check which part of the building you will be in. The Queen of Hoxton's pages do not state age or access arrangements; ask before you go.

By the river: Coppa Club Tower Bridge
Coppa Club's Tower Bridge site, at 3 Three Quays Walk on Lower Thames Street, is a riverside terrace rather than a rooftop, but it is the most weather-proof option here. The venue says its igloos are private, cosy dining spaces with views over the river, and that they mean the terrace can be used all year round whatever the weather. Its page does not say in so many words that the igloos are heated, so ask when you book if warmth matters.
It opens from 9am every day, closing at 11pm Monday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday and 10pm on Sunday. Afternoon tea runs from 2pm to 5pm, and on Thursdays from 5pm it runs an evening of DJs and spritzes it calls After Dark. The site recommends booking a table or an igloo in advance to get the best seats, by its online booking link, phone or email. Coppa Club's pages do not list prices or access information, and its menus are linked as PDFs, so check those, or contact the venue, before you commit to an igloo.

West End: Radio Rooftop at ME London
Radio Rooftop is the bar on top of the ME London hotel on the Strand, near Aldwych. We could not read an official page for it on the check date, so the details here come from Difford's Guide, a secondary listing: it describes a heated terrace with plush seating, an indoor area behind sliding glass walls, and views taking in St Paul's, Tower Bridge and the Shard.
That listing does not give hours, a booking policy, a dress code or access details. It gives a reservations email for the hotel and a phone number. Treat this one as a place to ring before you go rather than one to turn up at.

Sky Garden's bars: a drink under glass
Sky Garden, at 1 Sky Garden Walk, EC3M 8AF, is best known for its free tickets, which it releases every Monday morning, three weeks ahead, for the whole week. Our skyline guide covers those. For a date with a drink, what matters is how the bars work. Sky Garden lists the City Garden Bar and the Sky Pod Bar among its venues, and its bars open from 8am to midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday, with last orders 20 minutes before closing and last entry to the building at 11pm or midnight.
The bar page says walk-ins are subject to availability and never guaranteed, and evening walk-ins need physical ID at the door. Bar tables are open to 16 and over with an adult, while standing access and walk-ins are 18 and over. The FAQ adds a Challenge 25 policy, naming a PASS-hologram card, photocard driving licence or passport as accepted ID, and payment is cashless. If you book Darwin Brasserie or Fenchurch Restaurant, you do not need a separate access ticket and can arrive up to 30 minutes early; Larch Restaurant does not include access.
Two winter cautions. The outdoor terrace is open only 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 11am to 6pm at weekends, and security can close it in bad weather without notice, so an evening date will be indoors. The space is naturally ventilated and the venue advises dressing warmly. On access, Sky Garden says the route is step-free, with lifts from street level, but on the check date it also warned that a visitor lift was out of service, capacity was reduced and some ticket holders might not get in at their booked time.

Next summer: Frank's Cafe in Peckham
Frank's Cafe sits on the roof of a multi-storey car park in Peckham as part of Bold Tendencies, a summer arts programme. It is seasonal, and it is closed now: the 2026 season ran from 15 May to 12 September, with the cafe open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 11pm. It does not take table reservations and is card only. No 2027 dates were published on the check date.
Bold Tendencies publishes one of the most detailed access pages of any venue here. The address is 4 Holly Grove, SE15 5DF. Lifts run from the ground floor to Floor 7, you must be accompanied to use them, and the rooftop itself is step-free, with floors 7 and 8 joined by a concrete ramp. The main staircase has 86 steps, and the organisers point out that Peckham Rye station has no step-free access. There is one accessible toilet; the other cubicles are on a platform raised four steps.

Making a rooftop date go smoothly
Pick a booking strategy to suit the venue. Where small groups are walk-in only, as at Madison for drinks, arrive early on a weekday rather than at 8pm on a Friday. Where tables can be booked, as at Coppa Club or the Queen of Hoxton, a booking takes the uncertainty out of the first ten minutes. Note any cancellation charge when you book: Madison's is £25 a head if you cancel inside 48 hours.
Check age rules if either of you looks young. Madison is 21+ after 3pm and on Saturdays, Netil360 and Sky Garden's standing areas are 18+, and Sky Garden runs Challenge 25. Bring physical photo ID rather than a phone picture of one.
Plan for the cold. Even heated terraces lose warmth fast after dark in October, and Sky Garden warns that its space is naturally ventilated. A coat you are happy to keep on is better than a jacket chosen for the photo.
Ask about access before you choose rather than on arrival. Madison and Sky Garden say they have lift access, Bold Tendencies publishes a detailed route, and Netil360 says it has no lift access to the roof. Several venues here do not say either way.
Finally, think about the journey home. Rooftops in the City and Shoreditch empty out late, and our guide to getting home safely after a date covers Night Tube routes and sharing your plans.
Before you go
- Check the venue's own site on the day: rooftop opening is often weather dependent, and the Queen of Hoxton asks you to call ahead.
- Bring physical photo ID; Madison is 21+ after 3pm and on Saturdays, and Sky Garden's evening walk-ins need ID at the door.
- If one of you needs step-free access, rule out Netil360, and confirm the current lift situation at Sky Garden.
- Bring a warm layer even for a heated terrace; Madison says its terrace is not fully weatherproof.
- Note cancellation terms when you book, such as Madison's £25 per guest charge inside 48 hours.
